Description

The Newman School is seeking a full-time World Language Teacher. Newman School Faculty report directly to the Assistant Head of School and are a member of an educational department. Candidates with French and/or experience are encouraged to apply.

The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the course curriculum, as designed and assigned by the department chair, and meeting the departmental major objectives. In addition to teaching, Newman faculty advise a group of students and contribute to the overall program (clubs, activities, athletics) the equivalent of one out of two terms.

The successful candidate will be a passionate educator who is committed to the mission of Newman and displays a sensitivity to and understanding of students with diverse learning styles.

The Spanish teacher will foster a positive, structured, and caring environment, while also adhering to the goals of the International Baccalaureate - to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate French and/or Spanish lessons to students in grades 7-12
  • Engaging in professional development related to the International Baccalaureate
  • Effectively using technology to enhance instruction and learning
  • Assessing student performance and providing feedback that supports growth and development
  • Conducting parent conferences and communicating effectively with parents and families
  • Collaborate with colleagues in grade-level team meetings and department meetings
  • As an advisor, serve as a primary point of contact for parents and families
  • Engage in coaching or mentoring students

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. French, Spanish, Education)
  • Master's degree or higher in a related field (e.g. French, Spanish, Education) preferred
  • Teaching certification or licensure in French and/or Spanish
  • Experience teaching French and/or Spanish in a secondary school setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
