The King’s Academy Teaching Fellow Program is a two-year program with a one-year contract that will be renewed for a second year upon the teaching fellow’s successful completion of the first year. The program gives new teachers a rich opportunity for professional and personal growth in an immersive boarding school setting. Through this program, teaching fellows will learn about the teaching profession through individual mentorship and group training, while teaching their own courses and guiding students outside the classroom in the student life program.
Successful candidates, who will be supervised and mentored by the Dean of Faculty and senior faculty members, will typically have the following duties during their first year:
Teach up to three credits per semester
Participate in classroom observations with experienced teachers, and actively partner with them to lead and instruct in classroom settings through team teaching
Closely collaborate with the assigned mentor teacher, participating in weekly meetings to discuss pedagogical strategies, review classroom performance, and receive targeted feedback for professional growth
Participate in the Teaching Fellow Seminar, in which novice and experienced teachers meet to discuss issues, strategies, techniques, readings, and their own writing and reflections about teaching
Serve as a co-advisor to a group of students
Share main meals with the students no more than four times a week
Commit to a full-year engagement in co-curricular activities, which includes directing or co-directing activities over the course of three terms. Co-curricular activities include coaching athletic teams, advising a student publication, leading an artistic activity or community service, etc. This schedule is subject to change as a decision by the dean of students during the academic year
