The Savannah Country Day School is seeking a Middle School Learning Support Specialist. Under the general supervision of the Head of Middle School, Director of Learning Support, and Middle School Learning Support Coordinator, the Learning Support Specialist provides instruction, reinforcement of academic concepts, and collaboration with classroom teachers.
Typical duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Maintain an average caseload of up to 12-15 students, providing direct instruction in reading, writing, math, and executive functioning, in individual and small group sessions. Able to pre-teach and reteach concepts in all academic subjects, focusing on teaching students to apply effective learning strategies.
Expect to teach 5 to 6 periods out of an 8-period schedule; some of your “free” periods may be spent supervising assessments, meeting with faculty, or meeting other department needs; attend weekly grade-level meetings.
Share responsibility for arranging and supervising accommodations for students who test with accommodations.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and grade-level teams to provide holistic support and implement the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) guidelines.
Meet with the Head of Middle School, Director of Learning Support, the MS Learning Support Coordinator, the school counselors, the grade-level teams of teachers, and parents, as assigned.
Keep thorough records of individual lesson plans with short and long-term goals and the methods to achieve them. Keep parents informed of strategies and methods used in the individual support sessions.
Write student narrative reports twice a year on all students, including goals, materials, and strategies.
Attend parent/teacher conferences twice a year and meet with parents as needed during the year.
Attend meetings with the Head of MS, MS Learning Support Coordinator, and MS Counselor as needed.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Learning Support, or related field.
Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
Strong knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
