Description

For over 60 years, The Gateway School has transformed the lives of bright children who experience academic difficulty as a result of language-based learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, reading and writing disorders), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), executive function disorder, or auditory processing difficulties.

Located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Gateway enrolls approximately 150 students between the ages of 5-14. In small classes with a low student-to-teacher ratio, faculty and therapists meet students where they are, individualize instruction accordingly, and help them to become skilled, strategic, independent learners, capable of successfully advocating for themselves in their lives beyond Gateway.

Our dynamic, fast-paced Admissions Office has an opening for an Assistant Director of Admissions and Placement who will support the Director of Admissions and Placement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a warm and knowledgeable point of contact for prospective families by conducting tours and assisting with admissions events, open houses, and information sessions.
  • Build strong relationships with families, educational consultants, evaluators, and community professionals while supporting prospective students throughout the admissions process with professionalism and care.
  • Coordinate student visit days, shadow visits, academic screenings, and scheduling logistics.
  • Participate in application review and admissions committee discussions.
  • Assist in evaluating applicant fit within the school’s mission and programs.
  • Help manage admissions timelines, communications, and applicant follow-up as a way to support enrollment and re-enrollment initiatives.
  • Work within Veracross and departmental systems to maintain applicant records and communications and to assist with admissions tracking, internal reporting, and organization of applicant data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in admissions, preferably in an independent school setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with families, educational consultants, evaluators, and community professionals.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a positive attitude under pressure.
  • Experience with Veracross or similar admissions software a plus.
