Position Summary

The Athletic Trainer is a skilled, compassionate, and proactive health professional who supports boys in Grades 5–9 through comprehensive athletic health care and performance oversight. This individual plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and development of student-athletes while helping to cultivate resilience, accountability, and healthy habits.

The Athletic Trainer leads and manages the School’s athletic training program, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, return-to-play protocols, and health education. Working closely with the Director of Athletics, coaches, the Health Center, families, and outside medical professionals, the Athletic Trainer ensures that athletic participation aligns with best practices in sports medicine and the School’s core values of honesty, compassion, and respect.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Protect and Care for Student-Athletes:

  • Provide on-site injury prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning for all student-athletes in Grades 5–9.
  • Develop individualized treatment and return-to-play plans in alignment with established medical protocols.
  • Make appropriate physician referrals and maintain communication with outside medical providers.
  • Coordinate concussion baseline testing, education, management, and return-to-play decisions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Current certification as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) from the Board of Certification (BOC).
  • Current licensure as an Athletic Trainer (AT) in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer in a school or clinical setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge of athletic training principles, practices, and protocols.
