Director of Tennis

This is a stipend, exempt position within the athletics department reporting to the Director of Athletics to begin for the 2026-27 school year.

Position Purpose: The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Director of Tennis.

Position Description: The Director of Tennis will serve as the head of the entire tennis (girls and boys) program under the general direction of the Director of Athletics. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for the oversight and involvement in all parts of the girls and boys tennis programs for grades 6-12, and will coach the Upper School Varsity team.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Director of Athletics, provides a premier tennis program for the Shipley community, with opportunities to extend to those outside of Shipley.
  • Follows and upholds policies and mission statement of The Shipley School
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship and maintain appropriate conduct towards the student-athletes, opposing team, officials, spectators, etc.
  • Develop a long term player/team development plan that aligns to Shipley's long-term transfer goals
  • Build and develop strong relationships with Shipley students, families, community and alumni.
  • Physical Education
    • Working closely with Lower School Physical Education to develop Lower School tennis curriculum
  • Interscholastic
    • Serves as the Head of the entire Tennis program. Oversees all parts of the organization for grades 6-12, and coaches at the varsity level
      • Oversee Equipment and uniform inventory
      • Monitor practices
      • Develop lesson plans
      • Oversee skill development

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in tennis coaching and/or administration
  • Strong knowledge of tennis rules and regulations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with students, families, and community members
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with students, families, and community members
