General Summary

Teach Spanish to students in USM’s Middle School. Support USM’s mission to cultivate learners, leaders, and citizens through its academic and co-curricular programming. Model a passion for Spanish and love for learning, and help students meet their intellectual and social-emotional potential. Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen Spanish curriculum, to develop the craft of teaching, and to enhance the Middle School community and USM community as a whole. Embody the values of USM’s Common Trust: respect, trust, honesty, fairness, and kindness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach five sections of Spanish.
    • Plan and implement engaging and differentiated lessons.
    • Craft formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning.
    • Provide meaningful, growth-oriented feedback to students.
    • Inspire an appreciation for Spanish in students.
  • Advise a group of Middle School students.
  • Engage in regular professional development opportunities, in and outside of USM, to grow as a teacher.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the Middle School Spanish department.
  • Joyfully contribute to an inclusive school culture in which students are engaged, known, and valued.
  • Attend meetings and complete other duties as assigned in order to support the functioning of the Middle School.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong content knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching the Spanish language.
  • Deep respect and appreciation for Middle School students.
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and a desire to continually grow.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an eagerness to collaborate with others.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or related field.

Requirements
