Teaching French at Newman
Teaching French at Newman is an engaging and collaborative opportunity to work closely with students as they develop linguistic proficiency, cultural understanding, and global perspective. World Languages is a substantial three-year requirement in the Upper School, allowing teachers to build sustained relationships with students while guiding them through an increasingly sophisticated and immersive study of Francophone language and cultures. On any given day in a French classroom, you might observe spirited discussion in the target language, close reading of authentic texts or student presentations informed by cultural and historical context. Our history-rich city of New Orleans, with its deep French and Francophone roots, exceptional museums, archives, and cultural institutions, serves as a natural extension of the classroom and an ideal backdrop for teaching and learning in the World Languages Department.
