Position: Gifted and Talented Teacher 2026-2027 School Year

Reports to: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Position Status: Exempt, 0.6 FTE

Start Date: August 16, 2026

An integral part of our Open Minds Learning Center, our Gifted and Talented program is for students with an intellectually gifted learning profile, creative thinkers, high achievers, and twice-exceptional learners. The primary purpose of the program is to ensure that every child, regardless of where they are on their learning journey, receives the challenge and inspiration they deserve. Entry is designed to be inclusive, through a variety of pathways including prior evidence, in-house qualitative assessment, and sibling inclusivity.

The Gifted and Talented teacher’s primary responsibility is to support, plan, supervise, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate activities conducted to meet the educational needs of the intellectually gifted and twice-exceptional students enrolled in Marin Primary & Middle School’s gifted program. The essential functions, as shown below, represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the department's needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Support program leadership, vision, and goals for the Gifted and Talented program that align with Marin Primary & Middle School’s vision and mission.
  • Provide direct compacting, acceleration, and differentiation services for gifted students.
  • Support the PreK identification protocol and testing program as requested by the Director.
  • Under guidance from leadership, support the identification process of students participating in gifted programming using multiple criteria to create a more equitable selection process.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Gifted and Talented Education, or related field.
  • California teaching credential or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
  • Experience working with gifted and talented students, preferably in a public or private school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of gifted and talented education principles, practices, and research-based strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents.
