Description

Abraham Joshua Heschel School seeks a full-time lower school (Grades 1-5) math and general studies learning specialist to begin in the fall of 2026.

The school is an independent Jewish school, N-12, unaffiliated with any single movement or synagogue. Math Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to plan instruction, support differentiation, and strengthen math teaching across grades.
  • Provide targeted math support for students who benefit from additional structure, practice, and reinforcement.
  • Design and teach enrichment opportunities for students who are ready for deeper mathematical exploration and challenge.
  • Lead and support small-group instruction, including math support groups and an enriched math team.
  • Work with other learning specialists to support students with varied learning profiles.

General Studies Learning Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Teach small reading groups with a focus on language, comprehension, and writing in 3rd and 4th grade.
  • Provide push-in support/team teaching during ELA in grades 2-5; supporting teachers in the implementation of the lower school writing and social studies program.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other learning specialists to provide guidance for supporting a range of learners in the classroom.

Requirements

  • A strong knowledge base in the area of learning and teaching, with a focus on math and general studies.
  • Experience working with students in grades 1-5, particularly in math and reading instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Ability to design and implement targeted support and enrichment opportunities for students.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
