Description

Episcopal Day School is seeking full-time assistant teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. The assistant teachers will join our Lower School faculty and report directly to the Lower School Director. Assistant teachers are assigned to a single grade level or classroom, and work as an integral part of the teaching team for their students.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the lead teacher(s) to support a positive learning environment.
  • Partner with the lead teacher(s) and learning specialist to provide small group instruction in a variety of curricular areas.
  • Work closely with the lead teacher to facilitate the smooth functioning of the academic day, including stepping into the lead teacher role as a substitute when necessary.
  • Perform other school duties including recess and lunch supervision.
  • Participate in the full range of faculty activities, including faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, professional development, special events, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of paid or volunteer experience working with groups of children facilitating learning and supervising for safety.
  • Strong developmental understanding of children ages 4-10 years old.
  • Warmth, playfulness, and an ability to build rapport with children while retaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Excellent professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and a “how can I help?” attitude.
  • Self-reflective and eager to participate in Episcopal Day’s work on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
