Description

The Upper School Mathematics teacher will support the mission and vision of University Liggett School through positive interaction with students and faculty.

Specifically, it is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that the school’s mission, vision, and strategic plan are the center of all decisions and actions.

The teacher will support an atmosphere of trust and openness among employees, students, and parents and will support an atmosphere that fosters the intellectual, social, physical, behavioral, and emotional growth of each student.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach four or five sections of Upper School Mathematics
  • Provide excellent, rigorous instruction that advances all students’ mathematical thinking, fluency, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Create a class environment that is centered upon differentiated instruction, providing opportunities for every student to advance their skills and stretch student thinking and imagination
  • Create an equitable and inclusive class environment that promotes community, integrity, respect, excellence, and empathy
  • Craft, adapt, and utilize quality assessment materials, analyze assessment data, and use that data to adjust instruction
  • Work directly with students to supplement and support their mathematics instruction outside of regular class periods when needed
  • Effectively scaffold assignments and provide timely, constructive feedback on student work
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation pertaining to course syllabi, scope and sequence information, lesson plans, the online portal, and the gradebook, ensuring prompt dissemination of this information when required
  • Collaborate with colleagues and engage in department discussions about pedagogy and other concerns
  • Participate actively in advancing the Mathematics Department’s curriculum and

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or related field
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or related field preferred
  • Michigan teaching certification in Mathematics
  • Experience teaching Upper School Mathematics
  • Strong understanding of curriculum design and implementation
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
