Long-Term Substitute: Middle School Science

Position Description (What you will do):

The Science Department at the Hockaday school encourages young women to understand the world through their own observations and guided inquiry. This position will teach Science classes to students in the Middle School.

The Hockaday School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute to teach Middle School Science beginning August 10, 2026 for approximately 15 weeks.

Qualified candidates will possess a mastery of subject, pedagogical versatility, and commitment to students. Passionate about science, they model the joy of learning, and they embrace professional development opportunities as they seek the best for those students and for themselves. In addition to teaching and leading an advisory, the faculty member will sponsor clubs as needed and be available for student extracurricular activities.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you’ll:

• Teach five sections of Seventh Grade Science to Middle School students
• Serve as a Seventh Grade advisor to a group of Middle School Students
• Assess understanding using a variety of formative and summative assessments
• Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
• Attend Seventh Grade level meetings and faculty meetings
• Attend Science Department Meetings
• Monitoring and supporting students during Study Hall, Advisory Flex, and Cornerstones.
• Serve as a sponsor of a Middle School Club
• Other duties as assigned

• Advanced degree in Science or related field is preferred
• Teaching experience in Science is preferred, ideally at the Middle School level

• Must have the ability to work in a school environment through satisfactory completion of all legally required background checks
