Description

WHY TEACH AT AVENUES?

A top-tier school in New York City, offering a truly global education. Teaching and learning through dual language immersion and challenging interdisciplinary projects. A culture of creativity, entrepreneurship and deep collaboration. State-of-the-art technology throughout. Brilliant colleagues, with widely diverse experience, creating a unique educational experience together. There is no place quite like Avenues.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Avenues is seeking a Part-Time Speech-Language Pathologist (3 days per week) to join our Student Success Team (SST). In this unique role, the Speech-Language Pathologist partners with teachers, families, and SST colleagues to support students’ communication development through observation, screening, classroom-based strategies, and early intervention within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.

This position focuses primarily on consultation, screening, and classroom-based support rather than maintaining a traditional therapy caseload. The Speech-Language Pathologist plays an important role in helping teachers create communication-supportive classrooms and in identifying students who may benefit from additional support.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Speech-Language Pathologist’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Student Support

  • Conduct classroom observations and informal screenings to better understand students’ communication skills.
  • Share findings and practical recommendations with teachers and caregivers.
  • Identify classroom and home strategies that support communication development and monitor student progress.
  • Participate in regular student-focused meetings to discuss student needs and plan supports.

Collaboration

  • Work in partnership with teachers, families, and SST colleagues to support students’ communication development.
  • Collaborate with teachers to create communication-supportive classrooms.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field.
  • Current certification or licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Experience working with students with diverse communication needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, families, and SST colleagues.
