The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on East 62nd Street (Lower and Middle Schools) and East 64th Street (Upper School) in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. Serving roughly 480 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional prep school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system – all in a single-sex setting.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Browning is searching for a full-time Assistant Director of Admission, K–12 for the 2026–2027 academic year. The position will begin on July 1, 2026. The expected annual salary range for this position is $80,000-95,000, commensurate with experience. A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role is required. An advanced degree in a related field, as well as teaching experience, is preferred. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Admission reports to the Director of Admission and is a key member of the admission team and a visible ambassador for the School. Working closely with colleagues across divisions, the Assistant Director guides prospective families through the admission process while representing Browning’s mission, values, and educational philosophy with clarity and warmth. The role requires a strong understanding of the School’s program and a commitment to building meaningful relationships with families and community partners.



  • Conduct K–12 admission interviews, including playgroups, student visits, and parent conversations, and guide families from a wide range of backgrounds through the admission process with clear and timely communication.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase diversity and inclusion in the admission process.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across divisions to ensure a cohesive and effective admission process.
  • Represent the School at recruitment events, open houses, and other community functions.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in admission and enrollment management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role.
  • Advanced degree in a related field, as well as teaching experience, is preferred.
