The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on East 62nd Street (Lower and Middle Schools) and East 64th Street (Upper School) in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. Serving roughly 470 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional prep school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system – all in a single-sex setting.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Browning is searching for a full-time Lower School Associate Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The position will begin on or around August 27, 2026. The expected annual salary for this position is $59,000. A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role is required. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Lower School Associate Teachers support teaching and learning in Grades K-3 classrooms at Browning. This role will be in kindergarten, second, or third grade for the 2026-2027 school year. Associate teachers are responsible for building strong relationships with students and head teachers in order to deliver the content and curriculum of the Browning program. Successful associate teachers believe in and desire the growth of all their students and have a passion for the art, craft, and science of pedagogy. Ultimately, teachers are responsible for the most important work of our School -- knowing our boys and teaching them well. Among other things, a Lower School Associate Teacher is responsible for:

 

  • Partnering with head teacher(s) in delivering instruction in literacy, writing, mathematics, and social studies
  • Shepherding both the social-emotional and academic growth of the boys in the classroom
  • Supporting the development of a positive and inclusive classroom environment
  • Communicating effectively with students, parents, and colleagues

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students and head teachers
  • Passion for teaching and learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
