Description

The Hockaday School seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Head Rowing Coach to lead all aspects of its rowing program during the fall and spring rowing seasons, with an anticipated start date of August 3, 2026.

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Rowing Coach is responsible for the overall direction, administration, and development of the program, including planning and conducting practices, coaching student-athletes during training and competition, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the team.

The successful candidate will possess substantial knowledge of rowing techniques, training methodologies, safety protocols, and competitive strategy.

The Head Rowing Coach will foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes skill development, sportsmanship, personal growth, and a commitment to excellence.

The coach is expected to create an environment in which each student-athlete is treated with respect and dignity while encouraging teamwork, leadership, and a lifelong appreciation for the sport.

The Head Rowing Coach will collaborate with the Athletics Department to support the mission and values of The Hockaday School and provide a rewarding athletic experience for all participants.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you’ll:

  • Oversee the Upper School Rowing programs, teams, and coaches.
  • Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical conditioning necessary for individual and team success.
  • Prepare, organize, and supervise all practices.
  • Organize an initial team meeting each season to establish team rules, procedures, policies, and expectations.
  • Abide by all school and US Rowing rules and policies.
  • Perform equipment upkeep and repairs.
  • Work with Athletic Operations to coordinate team travel.
  • Work with the Dallas Rowing Club to coordinate team activities.

Requirements

  • Substantial knowledge of rowing techniques, training methodologies, safety protocols, and competitive strategy.
  • Ability to foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Experience in coaching student-athletes during training and competition.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Athletics Department and other stakeholders.
