Job Description:

Portledge School is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and mission-aligned Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Coach to lead its JV basketball team while working closely with the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach to build and strengthen the overall basketball program. The ideal candidate will help create a unified program vision that supports student-athlete development, skill progression, team culture, and long-term program success across all levels.

The coach will be responsible for developing a competitive, inclusive, and values-based team that reflects Portledge’s Mission and Pillars: Kindness, Purpose, Honor, and Respect. This role requires the ability to mentor student-athletes of varied skill levels, foster a positive and growth-oriented team environment, communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues, and represent the school with integrity within the PSAA and NYSAIS leagues.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Develop and implement training plans, skill development, and game strategies that support student-athletes of diverse ability levels and contribute to the long-term success of the basketball program.
• Work collaboratively with the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach to build a unified program vision that supports student-athlete development, skill progression, team culture, and long-term program success across all levels.
• Develop a competitive, inclusive, and values-based team that reflects Portledge’s Mission and Pillars: Kindness, Purpose, Honor, and Respect.
• Mentor student-athletes of varied skill levels and foster a positive and growth-oriented team environment.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues, and represent the school with integrity within the PSAA and NYSAIS leagues.

• Experience in coaching basketball at the high school or collegiate level.
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
• Ability to develop and implement training plans, skill development, and game strategies that support student-athletes of diverse ability levels.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
