JOB DESCRIPTION
MYP DESIGN TEACHER - MIDDLE SCHOOL
Reports to: Head of Middle School
Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt, 10-month position
Purpose: To design, develop, and implement an Innovation and Design curriculum for students in grades 6 - 7. Rooted in Design Thinking, MYP Design is one of the eight core subject groups in the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme.
MYP Design aims to encourage and enable students to:
- Develop interdisciplinary knowledge, understanding, and skills to design and create innovative solutions
- Use technology purposefully to access, process, and communicate information, as well as to model and produce solutions
- Explore and evaluate the impact of design innovations on individuals, global society, and the environment
- Investigate past, present, and emerging design within diverse cultural, social, political, and environmental contexts
- Value multiple perspectives and thoughtfully consider alternative solutions
- Act with integrity and take responsibility for their decisions while developing effective and professional working practices
Duties:
- Develop and implement the MYP Design curriculum for students in grades 6 - 7
- Plan and facilitate project-based learning experiences grounded in inquiry and real-world problem-solving
- Work collaboratively with the Design Center team and the Technology and Innovation team in the integration of innovative applications and tools
- Stay current on innovative technology and pedagogy through conferences, outside collaboration, etc.
- Participate in Middle School grade-level planning meetings
- Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Middle School
- Support the School and its leadership in promoting the values of the International Baccalaureate
