Description

The Advent School seeks a skilled and collaborative educator to serve as an Elementary Reading Specialist for a maternity leave position during the 2026–2027 school year.

This role supports students across Kindergarten through Grade 6 and is responsible for ensuring the continuity of student-centered, structured literacy instruction grounded in Orton-Gillingham principles.

The Advent School is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and rooted in principles of social justice. We seek educators who believe deeply in education for equity and who are committed to fostering student agency and growth.

Over the past five years, we have built a cohesive, schoolwide model for reading intervention that reflects our commitment to equity—ensuring that students with diagnosed learning disabilities receive the targeted instruction and accommodations they need to access the curriculum fully and thrive as learners.

This is a temporary leave position beginning in August 2026 and continuing through November 2026, with the potential to extend based on school needs.

The Elementary Reading Specialist will:

  • Ensure the continuity of student-centered, structured, multisensory literacy instruction grounded in Orton-Gillingham principles for an established caseload of students.
  • Provide pull-out reading intervention services for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6, working in individual and small-group sessions.
  • Continue service delivery for students currently identified for reading intervention, maintaining consistency in instructional approach and routines and progress monitoring.
  • Plan and deliver systematic, diagnostic Orton-Gillingham instruction to students in Kindergarten through Grade 6.

Requirements

  • Experience with Orton-Gillingham principles and multisensory instruction.
  • Ability to work with students of diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with progress monitoring and data-driven instruction.
  • Commitment to equity and social justice in education.
