THE POSITION
Hawken Upper School is seeking a PART-TIME CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE TEACHER. The ideal candidate has experience with or is willing to learn about and implement a language-acquisition, proficiency-based approach to second-language instruction.
Candidates who have experience teaching Chinese and supporting students with learning differences may be considered for a full-time position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Primary Teaching Responsibility
Teach the equivalent of two or three sections of Chinese (approximately 30-35 total students) during the fall and spring terms
Note: We offer Chinese I through AP Chinese, and this position will be responsible for teaching a range of levels.

Requirements
Master’s degree in Chinese Language and Culture or related field
Experience teaching Chinese language and culture, preferably in a secondary school setting
Ability to implement a language-acquisition, proficiency-based approach to second-language instruction
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and joy
