Description

About (HS)²

The High School High Scholar Program ((HS)²) is a five-week, residential, STEM-focused summer academic program designed to prepare high-achieving, first-generation and/or low-income high school students for college success. Scholars live and learn on the Colorado Rocky Mountain School campus in Carbondale, CO, developing the academic skills, confidence, and independence needed to thrive in higher education.

Position Overview

The (HS)² Writing Instructor teaches either Writing I or Writing II, foundational courses designed to strengthen students' writing skills and cultivate writing as a form of empowerment. Both courses are grounded in the belief that writing enables individuals to communicate their ideas clearly and confidently, regardless of field of study, career path, or personal interest.

Writing I focuses on building core writing skills and practices, emphasizing clarity, structure, revision, and confidence. Students develop the tools necessary to communicate their thoughts and ideas with fluidity and voice, while engaging in English Language Arts, creative writing, and social-emotional reflection.

Writing II builds on these foundations with a deeper focus on personal narrative and voice. Students explore storytelling as a means of self-definition and empowerment, culminating in a public writing showcase. The course also serves as preparation for drafting personal statements in the college application process the following summer.

Across both courses, instructors foster a safe, inclusive classroom community where students feel inspired to take intellectual and creative risks.
