Tampa Prep is currently seeking a full-time Academic Support Counselor to work in our Center for Academic Success for the 2026-2027 academic year who will work alongside our current Academic Support Counselor, School Counselor, faculty, and administrative team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in Special Education and/or a related/relevant field is preferred, or a bachelor’s degree in this area.
- A background in education with a specialization in reading, cognitive science, special education, or a related field is required.
- A strong understanding of learning differences, executive function skills, and the ability to read and interpret psychoeducational evaluations and communicate findings effectively to students, families, and teachers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Empathetic and student-centered
- Collaborative spirit with the ability to work across multiple departments and divisions.
- Experience in a comparable, learning specialist role (time spent in the classroom is preferred)
- Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Direct Student Support
- Works with students to foster academic success
- Helps students and faculty manage students’ academic accommodations
- Advises students and parents about strategies that facilitate learning
Administrative & Oversight
- Oversees standardized testing accommodations & nonstandard test administration
- Maintains confidential student files
- Interprets cognitive testing reports
Collaboration & Consultation
- Works closely with other Academic Support Counselor, School Counselor, and teaching faculty
- Coordinates plans for supporting students of concern with other departments and teams
