Germantown Friends School is seeking a full-time Middle/Upper School English teacher to join a vibrant, collaborative department. The ideal candidate is a passionate and innovative teacher of writing and literature with broad content knowledge and experience teaching.
English classes at GFS are intended to provide students with challenging instruction that supports them as they learn to undertake literary analysis and as they grow in their work as critical and creative writers.
This role will be in either middle or upper school, based on the qualifications of the candidate and the needs of the school. The expectation is that all teachers will support the advisory and other signature programs of their divisions and uphold the mission of the school with integrity.

Requirements
Passionate reader and excellent writer
Five to ten years of teaching experience in an English classroom
Knowledgeable regarding interpretations of text and how to facilitate discussion of these different paradigms
Strong classroom manager who fosters an inclusive, safe, and positive learning environment that supports student growth and engagement
Experience working with middle school students and a passion for supporting learners during this important developmental stage
Commitment to academic excellence with a joy for learning
Able to explicitly teach grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension of high-level texts
Seeks to know each child and to draw on individual strengths
Contributes to work on diversity, equity, and inclusion in curriculum development and pedagogy work
Experience collaborating with colleagues on curriculum and lesson planning
Deep knowledge of texts and can use that expertise in curricular development.
