Join a highly regarded Federal Government department at the centre of national policy and strategic delivery. With a strong focus on strengthening cyber security posture, the department is investing in uplift across governance, risk and compliance to support a modern, resilient operating environment. You will be part of a collaborative and high-performing team working on complex and high-profile initiatives. This will be an initial 12-month contract based in Canberra, with a hybrid working arrangement and a requirement to hold an active NV1 security clearance.

Your new role

As a Cyber Security Specialist within the GRC function, you will play a key role in advising on and embedding best-practice security across the organisation. You will work closely with senior stakeholders to assess risk, support accreditation activities and drive alignment with key frameworks. This is a strategic and hands-on role where you will contribute across risk assessments, security documentation, assurance activities and broader cyber uplift initiatives. You will also support ICT programs by ensuring robust security controls and compliance requirements are embedded from design through to delivery.

You will:

  • Provide strategic cyber security advice to senior stakeholders, translating technical risk into business outcomes
  • Support alignment with frameworks such as ISM, PSPF, Essential Eight and NIST
  • Lead or contribute to security risk assessments and control evaluations
  • Develop and maintain accreditation artefacts including SIA, SRA, SSP and IRP
  • Provide risk treatment recommendations to reduce organisational exposure
  • Contribute to assurance activities and uplift of security practices across ICT programs
  • Support accreditation and compliance activities

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of cyber security principles and frameworks (ISM, PSPF, Essential Eight, NIST)
  • Ability to provide strategic cyber security advice to senior stakeholders
  • Experience in security risk assessments and control evaluations
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a high-performing team
  • Active NV1 security clearance
