Overview of position:
The lower school science teacher is responsible for all aspects of managing the first and second grade science classroom and collaboratively teaching within a vertical team structure. We have high expectations for our students and are looking for a science teacher to join our team who have: a strong, comprehensive knowledge base in the area of elementary science; a love for children in all of their developmental stages; a desire to ensure students are engaged and learning at high levels; and experience differentiating instruction to meet a wide variety of learners. This is a part-time position, teaching three sections of students in the first and in the second grade.
Responsibilities:
The lower school science teacher is charged with the successful management of the science classroom. Responsibilities include curriculum planning, implementing instruction in core-content areas, and executing effective classroom management strategies. The science teacher is responsible for the teaching and learning of important scientific inquiry skills and collaborating across disciplines for an integrated approach to learning. They also provide guidance for each student by forming a positive student-teacher relationship. The science teacher is responsible for effectively communicating with homeroom teachers about student growth and challenges, and when necessary, communicates directly with parents. They work closely with grade-level teaching teams, as well as colleagues within the school.
