Description

Solebury School seeks a qualified Science Teacher with expertise in physics and chemistry, experience, and enthusiasm for teaching high school students to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year.

An intentionally small, all-gender, independent day and boarding school serving students in grades 9–12, Solebury is nestled on a rolling 140-acre campus in the Pennsylvania countryside.

At Solebury, students and faculty pursue learning as a shared endeavor; this approach to education is a cornerstone of the school's philosophy.

Faculty play a central role in students' academic, social, and residential lives, and teaching here is intentionally relational and community-oriented.

The ideal candidate will be eager to join a close-knit school community grounded in mutual respect, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

This position carries the opportunity to serve as Science Department Head for the right candidate.

Essential Functions

Teaching at Solebury extends beyond the classroom. Faculty are active participants in the academic, extracurricular, and residential life of the school.

The responsibilities below reflect the core expectations and rhythms of a full-time teaching role.

  • Teach 4 courses per term within Solebury's trimester-based academic schedule. Potential courses include AP Chemistry and AP Physics.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor to up to 8 students, supporting students' academic and personal growth.
  • Contribute to the extracurricular program, a vital part of student life. Solebury uses a points system to ensure an equitable distribution of extracurricular responsibilities and a manageable overall workload, with an expectation of 4 points per year for each faculty member.
    • One trimester of a standard after-school activity (3 days per week, 3:45–5:15 p.m.) = 2 points
    • One trimester of a more time-intensive activity or coaching assignment = 4 points
  • Meet all school calendar and scheduling requirements.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Science Education or a related field.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience in high school science.
  • Expertise in physics and chemistry.
  • Ability to teach AP courses.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
