DescriptionSt. James’ Episcopal School is looking for a Part-Time School Chaplain beginning in August 2026. This is a 10-month, non-exempt position requiring weekday availability. The successful candidate will take a student-centered approach to all school work and will use the School’s mission to support the academic, extracurricular, social, and emotional success of students.
The School Chaplain:
- teaches Religion class to students in four grades ranging from K-6, including:
- sharing the teaching responsibilities with the Head of School and the Rector of St. James’-in-the-City.
- teaching the Godly Play curriculum in grades K-4.
- coordinates the Chapel and Assembly schedule with the Senior Administration team.
- plans the weekly Chapel, including creating and printing the bulletin, with the help of the Assistant Head of School for Systems & Matriculation.
- preaches regularly at Chapel, creating the preaching rotation to include other speakers.
- works with the Senior Administration Team to organize the Elementary School Christmas Pageant and Preschool holiday celebration.
- performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School or her designee.
- reports to the Head of School.

Requirements- Master’s degree in Divinity or related field.
- Experience working with children in a school setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, parents, and staff.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Commitment to the school’s mission and values.
