The Chapin School, an independent K-12 day school for girls located in New York City, is seeking a Varsity Assistant Tennis Coach for the 2026 season.

POSITION TITLE: Varsity Assistant Tennis Coach

Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Head Tennis Coach, the Varsity Assistant Tennis Coach will provide skill development and planning throughout the season. Candidates should have knowledge and experience within the sport and understand how to teach, mentor, and motivate student-athletes.

A Chapin athletic coach demonstrates the following knowledge, skills, abilities:

  • Clear commitment to the educational philosophy and mission of the School and Athletic Department
  • Is an effective communicator and educator who can teach tennis players of all skill levels and abilities and understands the importance of listening as a key component of teaching.
  • Understands the sport. Not only must they possess in-depth knowledge of fundamental skills, progressions, and strategies, but must also be able to adapt teaching instruction to all athletes.
  • Models professional leadership and behavior by adhering to the same rules expected of the athletes, displaying a positive attitude, and motivating and inspiring the team.
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of student-athletes.

The Varsity Assistant Tennis Coach's specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • 5 days per week M-F. Practices are Tuesdays (6:30-8am) and Thursdays (7-8am).
  • Matches are generally 2 to 3 days per week, between 4-6pm.
  • Pre-season: August 20th through August 28th; Regular-season: August 31st through November 9th.
  • Special events requiring additional hours and responsibilities: Homecoming, Wednesday September 30th, post-season.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience within the sport of tennis.
  • Ability to teach, mentor, and motivate student-athletes.
  • Clear commitment to the educational philosophy and mission of the School and Athletic Department.
