Visual Arts Teacher

The Newman School is seeking a Visual Arts Teacher. Newman School Faculty report directly to the Assistant Head of School and are a member of an educational department.

The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the course curriculum, as designed and assigned by the department chair, and meeting the departmental major objectives.

The successful candidate will be a passionate educator who is committed to the mission of Newman and displays a sensitivity to and understanding of students with diverse learning styles.

The Visual Arts Teacher will foster a positive, structured, and caring environment, while also adhering to the goals of the International Baccalaureate - to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

The Newman School is an independent, co-educational college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12.

Responsibilities:

• Preparing and delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate visual arts lessons to students in grades 7-12
• Engaging in professional development related to the International Baccalaureate
• Effectively using technology to enhance instruction and learning
• Assessing student performance and providing feedback that supports growth and development
• Conducting parent conferences and communicating effectively with parents and families
• Collaborate with colleagues in grade-level team meetings and department meetings
• As an advisor, serve as a primary point of contact for parents and families
• Engage in coaching or activities outside of the classroom as assigned

• Degree in visual arts, education, or relevant degree
• Experience teaching visual arts
• At least two years of experience working in a school environment with students in grades 7-12
