Description

The Whitfield School, an innovative educational institution for students in grades 6-12, announces an opening for a Visual Arts teacher. We are seeking individuals who actively engage with - and learn from - colleagues on a daily basis, are energized by the opportunity to co-create an equitable and inclusive environment for a diverse student body, and consistently apply research-based best practices in their classrooms. This position will begin in August 2026.

This is a full-time position; however, we welcome interest from candidates seeking a part-time role, as the responsibilities may be divided into two part-time positions.

Whitfield’s Arts department fosters character, curiosity, and passion in dynamic studio-based classrooms. Students develop an appreciation for the power and beauty of visual expression by experimenting with diverse artistic media, exploring art history and contemporary practices, and refining their technical skills. Holistically, the Arts Department endeavors to provide students with the tools they need to become skilled, creative, confident artists, and visual storytellers.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Teach primarily digital arts courses (photography, graphic design, and yearbook) at the high school level - Specific courses to be determined based on the experience and expertise of the candidate
  • Teach middle school general visual arts courses as needed.
  • Advise students as part of the school’s Advisory Program
  • Serve as an advisor to the school yearbook
  • Meet with students during “Academic Lab” time to provide additional support, individualized feedback, and opportunities for extension
  • Collaborate with departmental peers on curricular design, project-based learning experiences, and experiential education
  • Collaborate with a grade level team to foster a community of kindness, trust, and belonging
  • Work professionally and cooperatively

Requirements

  • Teaching experience in visual arts, preferably at the middle school and high school levels
  • Experience with digital arts courses, including photography, graphic design, and yearbook
  • Ability to advise students and serve as a mentor
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment
