Position Summary

The Head Teacher is responsible for the education and support of students in a kindergarten homeroom, as well as supporting the planning and execution of admissions activities, processes, and events designed to attract, enroll, and retain kindergarten students and their families.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Plan and implement a rich, rigorous, cohesive, and integrated lower school curriculum in math, reading, writing, phonics/word study, social studies, and social-emotional learning.
• Collaborate with peers and academic team to develop interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary curricula utilizing backward design, standards-based learning, and performance-based assessment.
• Integrate latest educational research into the academic program in alignment with Hewitt’s mission and strategic vision.
• Monitor and document academic, social, and emotional progress of students in collaboration with the learning support team.
• Communicate student progress in written reports.

• Minimum 3 years of experience in teaching kindergarten students.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing engaging and effective lesson plans.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum design and implementation.
• Experience with backward design and standards-based learning.
• Ability to integrate technology into the classroom.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
