Description

Kent Place School is seeking a full-time Visual Arts educator to teach students in grades 9-12. We believe that creativity is an essential skill for all students. In an ever-changing world, our graduates must be equipped to solve complex problems, analyze the world through multiple perspectives, and remain adaptable. We are seeking an educator who doesn't just teach 'art,' but teaches students how to think, innovate, and lead through the visual expression and communication. We are looking for a candidate who is as comfortable with a paintbrush as they are with a digital stylus, and who would look forward to collaborating with visual arts colleagues as well as the broader community.

This is a dynamic role designed for a versatile artist-educator. The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of courses, transitioning between long-term mentorship and fast-paced, trimester-based explorations. Opportunities to lead specialized courses such as Architecture, Ethics and the Arts, Graphic Design, and Animation may exist.

Anticipated Course Load

  • Studio Art (full year): Serve as the primary mentor for students throughout the academic year, focusing on deep skill acquisition and cultivating exploration of visual communication.
  • Visual Arts Workshop (trimester course): A foundational rotation for 9th grade students.
  • Photography 1 & 2 (trimester courses): Covering digital photography, compositional concerns, lighting, and post-processing.
  • Film Art 1 & 2 (trimester courses): Introduction to cinematic storytelling, analysis, and digital editing.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to teach introductory to intermediate skills in 2D design (drawing, painting, color theory).
  • Ability to teach introductory to intermediate skills and techniques in digital photography, graphic design, and filmmaking.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Art Education or related field.
  • Teaching certification in Art Education or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience teaching Visual Arts in a secondary school setting.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and implementation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and adapt to changing circumstances.
