The Lower School Classroom Teacher (Grades 1st - 4th) provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. The Lower School Classroom Teacher inspires an engaging, innovative, and student-centered classroom, and demonstrates flexibility, passion and teamwork. This teacher maintains positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues while modeling outstanding character and empathy.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the school's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required
Strong classroom management skills
Keep abreast of current educational research, trends, and best practices to facilitate and guide goal setting, reflection, and professional development
Foster a challenging and nurturing learning environment that encourages critical thinking and meaningful discussions
Possess an excellent understanding of the principles of child development and early childhood educational methods
Establish strong and appropriate rapport with students
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure an optimum educational experience for students
Implement relevant and authentic pedagogical strategies, while being mindful of diverse learning styles
Appropriately incorporate technology to enhance student learning
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and is appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students
Engage actively with the Oakridge community by participating in events, providing support to students, and promoting the school positively in all communications
Engage in, and seek out professional development opportunities that contribute to the growth of the teacher and the school

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
Teaching certification or license
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
Strong organizational and time management skills
Experience working with students in a classroom setting
