Description

Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 300 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks a 2nd Grade Primary School Co-Teacher (Parental Leave). This position reports to the Primary School Director and is a member of the Primary School Division.

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in elementary education or a related field.
  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of teaching experience.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the social, emotional, and academic needs of elementary-age students.
  • Well-versed in best practices for delivering language arts, mathematics, and social studies instruction.
  • Experience with Responsive Classroom and a commitment to progressive education.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to inquiry and project-based learning.
  • Training in Orton-Gillingham preferred.
  • Wholehearted support of the mission and core values of the school.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and sustain a community of learners in the classroom where each individual is honored and respected.
  • Implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate math, language arts, and social studies curriculum.
  • Co-lead morning meetings using a Responsive Classroom approach.
  • Be attuned to each student’s academic progress, social-emotional skills, and positive identity development.
  • Communicate effectively with students and families.
  • Partner with parents to effectively educate their students.
  • Collaborate with other classroom teachers, specialists, and administrators.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Requirements
