The Buckley School, an all-boys K-9 school located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is seeking an outstanding math teacher. The Buckley School’s math program stands out for its depth, pace, rigor, and excellent preparation for success in secondary school. Highly qualified candidates for this position will also be considered to serve as Buckley’s next Math Department Chair.
Faculty at Buckley take part in the whole life of the school. Hosting student clubs, serving as advisors, and having family-style lunch with students are all hallmarks of the program and part of the faculty experience.
The preferred candidate will have at least 3-5 years of math teaching experience, preferably in independent schools. Demonstrably in-depth knowledge of mathematical content and pedagogy is paramount, particularly for content and curriculum ranging from pre-algebra through high school geometry and Algebra 2.
Buckley seeks a teacher who is as excited about and capable of meeting the challenges of a 5th-grade math class as they are for an 8th or 9th-grade advanced algebra or geometry class. This position could also be a homeroom teacher in the Upper School, requiring building proactive relationships with families and overseeing group time, daily recess, lunch coverage, study hall, and a class play.
Excellent writing, academic technology, and communication skills are vital. The successful candidate will recognize the unique opportunities afforded by an all-boys educational context, in addition to having a demonstrated passion for this content, this age range, and for the art and science of teaching and learning. They will collaborate closely with colleagues within and across grade levels; collegiality and adaptability are essential qualities.
