The Opportunity

Covenant Preparatory School’s Science Teacher facilitates the classroom and curricular components of the school’s science program. Inspiring a love of STEM amongst our students, the Science Teacher serves a truly invaluable role in the life of our school. As a member of the NativityMiguel Coalition, Covenant Prep is on an extended day program, running from approximately 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and includes Summer Academy for the month of July.

Candidates should be mission driven with a firm commitment to social justice. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate generosity of spirit, an exceptional work ethic, flexibility, and a willingness to consistently learn. Covenant Prep teachers play a major role in all aspects of school life. In addition to teaching responsibilities, all teachers participate in the school’s advisory, athletics/activities, and service programs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach approximately three STEM-related classes to grades of no more than fifteen students;
  • Be families’ first point of contact as the advisor to a small group of students;
  • Coach or run clubs and/or after school activities;
  • Supervise students throughout the school day on a faculty rotation;
  • Obtain proper endorsement to transport students in school vehicles and/or chaperone off-campus events;
  • Participate in Summer Academy (usually the month of July);
  • Other assigned duties, as needed, during the regular school year and Summer Academy (some of which may happen outside of the typical schedule).

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Science Education or related field;
  • Teaching certification in Science Education;
  • Experience working with middle school students, preferably in an urban setting;
  • Strong understanding of STEM curriculum and instructional methods;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and school administrators;
  • Commitment to social justice and serving the needs of underserved communities.
