A World Language teacher at Forsyth Country Day School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students in their classroom, utilizing the school’s instructional program. The World Language Department believes students should be global citizens by integrating the world language standards developed by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages. FCDS aims to facilitate the development of strong comprehension and speaking skills, develop ease and confidence with reading and writing skills, encourage students’ integration of language learning across their daily academic experience, and introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning. Responsibilities include:
Teach Spanish to upper school students, using a proficiency-based instructional approach
Serve as an Upper School advisor and participate in department meetings, team meetings, teaching and learning training, and other aspects that support the student experience
Employ a variety of teaching methods, including individual and small group instruction, to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, attitudes, and backgrounds
Encourage an inclusive classroom that accepts different perspectives and backgrounds, and elicits a greater understanding of the world with a global perspective
Provide tutorials as necessary for students in need of extra academic support
Communicate regularly with parents of students, including conducting conferences
Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and academic problems

Requirements
Master's degree in Spanish, Education, or related field
NC Teaching Certification in Spanish or willingness to obtain
Experience teaching Spanish in a middle or high school setting
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
Strong organizational and time management skills
Commitment to collaborating with colleagues and contributing to a positive school community
