Salary Range: $81,000 - $178,000. The position on the scale will be based on years of teaching experience and education.

The Dalton School, a progressive K-12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattan's Upper East Side, is consistently recognized as one of the preeminent independent day schools in the nation. Guided by the Dalton Plan, the foundation of a Dalton education, our faculty meets each student's evolving needs, interests, and abilities. Dalton challenges each student to develop intellectual independence, creativity, curiosity, and a sense of responsibility toward others both within the School and in the broader community.

We are seeking a 4th Grade Teacher and House Advisor to join the Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. The Dalton Middle School encompasses Grades 4-8 and the 4th Grade team has five House Advisors that each work with approximately 18 students. Our 4th grade House Advisors teach an integrated Language Arts and Social Studies class, co-teach Math with specialists, and support their advisees through our House curriculum.

The ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about progressive elementary and early middle school education and differentiation. We seek teachers who are enthusiastic about working collaboratively to improve pedagogy and to design innovative curriculum that addresses the whole child. Curricular content in Grade 4 includes a yearlong study of European and Chinese immigration, the Transatlantic Slave Trade, literary studies and analysis, and the writing process, which incorporates links to literature and social studies explorations. The 4th grade team strives to select texts and documents that reflect the diversity of our world.

Requirements

  • Passionate and knowledgeable about progressive elementary and early middle school education and differentiation.

  • Experience with integrated Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum and co-teaching with specialists.
  • Ability to support students through a House curriculum.
