A Lower School teacher at IMS is responsible for maintaining a positive and appropriate educational environment in their classroom and executing a program that meets the intellectual and emotional needs of each child.
It is expected that the fitness teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers and the Head of Lower School to teach an engaging curriculum and to fulfill IMS’s mission of developing, in every child, their sense of compassion, honesty, and respect.
It is expected that the PE and Health + Wellness teacher will engage with and contribute to an equity, inclusion, and belonging framework for instruction and assessment.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide physical education to the Pre-K - 4th Grade students of the Lower School which is focused on supporting the gross motor development of each child.
- In collaboration with the Head of Lower Campus and Counseling department, provide developmentally appropriate Health + Wellness instruction to PK- 4th Grade students.
- Drive students from the Lower School to the Upper Campus when necessary for PE class or PE related activities (this requires possession of a PSL).
- Support the Director of OAE with weekly Mountain Time classes in Pre-K-4th Grade.
- Complete twice/annual student progress reports on the gross motor development of each student using IMS’s reporting system.
- Provide After School program support in line with physical education programmatic goals and/or provide the equivalent instruction/coaching to the Upper Campus athletic office.
Other duties include but are not limited to:
- Attending all professional development days and completing assigned trainings by deadlines as designated.
- Regularly attending weekly faculty meetings.
- Completing student progress reports by the designated deadline.
- Holding student progress conferences with parents as designated.
- Fulfilling other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School.
