Lower School Math and Science Specialist

Indian Mountain School is seeking a Lower School Math and Science Specialist to support the academic growth of students in grades PreK-4th Grade. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching mathematics and science, with experience working with elementary-aged children. They will be responsible for developing students' mathematical mindsets, curiosity, exploration, and investigation, as well as creative and critical thinking skills.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative member of the teaching faculty, adept at partnering with classroom teachers and supporting all students' mathematics progress. They will also need to collaborate with other special area teachers and be comfortable with hands-on, nature-oriented activities and projects.

Responsibilities:

• Support PK-4th grade classroom teachers' mathematics instruction through small group and individual work with students.
• Teach science classes to students in PreKindergarten and Kindergarten, and First, Second, Third, and Fourth Grades once per week.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver science lesson plans and assignments in a safe and appropriate manner using FOSS science curriculum and any relevant supplements.
• Lead whole school mathematical assessment periods and support and manage classroom teacher math assessment delivery.
• Regularly communicate with classroom teachers about student progress.

• Master's degree in Mathematics, Science, or a related field.
• Experience teaching elementary-aged children, preferably in a developmentally appropriate setting.
• Strong background in teaching mathematics and science, with a focus on developing students' mathematical mindsets and critical thinking skills.
• Experience with Responsive Classroom training and Project-Based Learning (PBL) is advantageous.
• Familiarity with the NGSS and FOSS curriculum is beneficial.
• Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other special area teachers.
• Comfortable with hands-on, nature-oriented activities and projects.
