Full-time High School History Teacher
Starting Fall 2026

Classification: Full Time, Exempt, Faculty
Reporting to: Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning

Urban School of San Francisco seeks an energetic History Teacher to teach 9th grade world history, 10th/11th grade American History and electives such as Civics, Foreign Policy, French Revolution, Modern China, Economics, or other courses based on expertise and experience.

The school is looking for a dynamic, creative teacher who has enthusiasm for working with high school students, a commitment to innovative pedagogy and collaboration with colleagues, a commitment to equity pedagogy, and to their own continued professional growth. Ideal candidates should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in History, at least two years experience teaching history or social studies at the secondary level, curriculum development experience or interest, and a willingness to expand their historical knowledge and teach courses outside their current areas of expertise.

At Urban, we want and expect our students to be active historians. Our History Department is committed to helping students develop intellectual curiosity and critical engagement by understanding the complexities of the past and its implications for our present and future. Our program encourages students to approach historical inquiry with rigor and nuance, equipping them with the analytical tools to evaluate diverse sources and perspectives. Students learn to craft well-reasoned historical arguments through close reading of primary and secondary texts in a collaborative learning environment that prioritizes thoughtful discussion, active listening, and evidence-based interpretation.

A full time teacher at Urban is also expected to be an advisor for a group of 10-12 students, serving as their advocate, mentor and academic advisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in History
  • At least two years experience teaching history or social studies at the secondary level
