The Stony Brook School seeks a talented, mission-aligned faculty member to join our English Department beginning in August 2026. This role is expected to center on our foundational English courses, especially English 8, with opportunities to teach upward through the program, including upper school English courses, depending on departmental needs.

Founded in 1922, The Stony Brook School is a co-ed Christian college-prep boarding and day school for grades 7–12 on a 55-acre campus on Long Island's North Shore. We unite academic rigor with authentic Christian faith in a diverse, global community.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field (master's degree strongly preferred)
  • Three or more years of teaching experience
  • A demonstrated growth mindset and enthusiasm for developing as a teacher, mentor, and colleague
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • A desire to serve in a faith-based educational environment that emphasizes Christian scholarship and character formation
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a team of educators
  • Expertise in planning and delivering mission-aligned curriculum and lessons with clear objectives, strong materials, and thoughtful assessments that move students toward growth and mastery
  • Experience leading discussion-based English classes (such as Socratic seminars)
