UPPER SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER

Sayre School seeks a highly motivated and qualified full-time English teacher who desires a professional and fun working environment dedicated to student growth and achievement. Job responsibilities and opportunities include:

  • Teaching five total sections of English with three preps.
  • Preparing students for the complex, iterative writing process across disciplines.
  • Working with a group of advisees and supporting the social-emotional needs of students.
  • Working collaboratively within the department and the Upper School as a whole.
  • Being accessible to students outside of class and communicating with families as needed.
  • Supervision duties in the halls, outdoors, and at lunch.
  • Leading / co-leading extracurricular activities.

The Upper School English Department aims to cultivate curiosity as we guide students to read responsibly, write to discover, and tailor their communication to authentic audiences. We seek a full-time instructor to teach three different courses, which are likely to be English 12, either English 9 or English 10, and one elective per semester for a total of 5 class sections. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English or related field.
  • Teaching certification or ability to obtain.
  • Experience teaching English in a high school setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and support students outside of class.
