Description

Teaching faculty are responsible for fostering a positive, supportive learning experience for every student. In addition to teaching, faculty contribute to South Kent’s extra-curricular programs and student’s residential life.

Rooted in the Science of Learning, our academic program is built on the belief that all students can achieve meaningful academic growth when provided with effective instruction and support. We pursue this through a competency-based approach, where instruction aligns with clearly defined instructional objectives and student learning targets, which are observable demonstrations of knowledge and skills. Teachers assess progress based on these targets and provide timely, constructive feedback to guide continued growth. This approach combines explicit instruction with opportunities for authentic student engagement.

When appropriate, project-based learning is incorporated to connect abstract concepts to real-world applications, helping students prepare for a rapidly changing world.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver instruction that emphasizes explicit teaching aligned with clearly defined instructional objectives and student learning targets.
  • Apply Understanding by Design (UbD) principles to develop syllabi, unit plans, and assessments that promote clear, observable demonstrations of student learning.
  • Use project-based curriculum elements when appropriate to deepen understanding and connect ideas to real-life contexts.
  • Maintain instructional spaces in accordance with institutional safety guidelines.
  • Implement departmental curricula, objectives, assessments, and policies.
  • Teach up to five blocks in a five-block rotating schedule each trimester, including all elements of planning, instruction, and assessment.

Requirements

  • Ability to design and deliver instruction that emphasizes explicit teaching aligned with clearly defined instructional objectives and student learning targets.
  • Understanding of Understanding by Design (UbD) principles and ability to apply them in curriculum development.
  • Experience with project-based learning and ability to incorporate it into instruction when appropriate.
  • Ability to maintain instructional spaces in accordance with institutional safety guidelines.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
