The Lang School seeks a reflective, student-centered Upper School Learning Specialist to support twice-exceptional learners (2e) in grades 6–12. The Learning Specialist serves on the Academic Support Team and aligns with the mission of The Lang School and the Academic Support Team: “The Academic Support Team empowers Lang students by building skills, strategies, and confidence that allow them to thrive in the classroom and beyond, always grounded in curiosity, joy, and a belief in each learner’s potential.”
Role Overview - Provide targeted literacy instruction 1:1 and in small groups through both push-in and pullout models.
- Teach and coach transferable skills and strategies for decoding, fluency, comprehension, written expression, and executive functions using evidence-based programs.
- Partner as a core member of the Academic Support Team and collaborate with classroom teachers, therapeutic specialists, and school leadership to ensure aligned supports across settings.
- Maintain clear data systems, progress monitoring, and actionable communication with all stakeholders.
- Engage deeply in professional learning aligned with The Lang School’s mission and methods.
Requirements - MA/MS in Special Education, Reading, or Literacy
- Valid teacher certification
- 3+ years full-time lead-teaching experience
- 2+ years of school-based experience as a literacy specialist, learning specialist, or interventionist
- Formal training and hands-on experience with Orton–Gillingham or a similar multisensory, structured literacy approach
