Isidore Newman School seeks a talented, dynamic, intellectually curious, and mission-aligned Upper School math teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The ideal candidate will have meaningful experience teaching Algebra II, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus across multiple levels, including regular, Honors, and AP courses.
Newman’s Math Department embraces a student-centered philosophy that emphasizes understanding the “why” behind mathematical concepts, so applicants who share this commitment to deep conceptual learning will be especially strong fits.
We seek teachers who prioritize problem-solving strategies, demonstrate strong facility with technology appropriate to the modern math classroom, and design instruction that actively engages students in critical thinking.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, this position includes advising and other roles within the Upper School community; therefore, a genuine desire to contribute meaningfully beyond the classroom is essential.
The Math Department is composed of 12 talented and deeply committed educators whose experience at Newman ranges from one year to more than twenty-five.
This blend of fresh perspective and institutional wisdom creates a dynamic, collaborative team united by a shared commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
Our teachers prioritize learning by doing, engaging students through hands-on activities, rich discussion, problem-based exploration, and purposeful teacher-led demonstration.
We encourage students to place genuine value in the struggle of solving rigorous problems, recognizing that perseverance and productive challenge are essential to developing both mathematical understanding and a true growth mindset.
