The Potomac School is seeking candidates for an Upper School Computer Science Teacher for a potential opening for the 2026-2027 school year.
This is a full-time, 10-month position, reporting to the Head of the Upper School, responsible for teaching four classes (including Introduction to Computer Science, Advanced Computer Science, and Python Programming) as well as advising a group of Upper School students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspire a love of computer science in students through teaching four classes and managing a student advisory.
Build relationships with students via the classroom.
Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instruction in a manner that facilitates active, student-centered learning using various teaching methods such as discussions, group activities, and occasional lectures.
Work with students to encourage and facilitate each individual’s growth.
Collaborate actively with science department colleagues, including on curriculum and course planning.
Teach the assigned curriculum, evaluate students’ progress, and inform parents of progress.
Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in the classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
Meet with parents as needed to discuss student progress and challenges.
Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training workshops.
Demonstrate personal leadership qualities to inspire student learning, including understanding of the characteristics of the age group taught.
Work in an organized, dependable, patient, and creative manner.

Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with a major in Computer Science or a related field.
Teaching certification in Computer Science or a related field.
3+ years of experience teaching computer science or a related subject.
Experience with curriculum design and implementation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
