The Potomac School World Language Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Chinese teacher to begin in August 2026. This is a full-time position reporting to the division head, based on grades assigned. This position is responsible for teaching Chinese in grades 7-12 as well as advising a group of Intermediate School students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspire a love of languages in students through teaching four classes.
Build relationships with students via the classroom and an advisory.
Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instruction in a manner that facilitates active, student-centered learning using various teaching methods.
Work with students to encourage and facilitate each individual’s growth.
Collaborate actively with world language department colleagues, including on curriculum and course planning.
Teach the assigned curriculum, evaluate students’ progress, and inform parents of progress.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities by integrating competencies and goals into the lesson plans.
Conduct classes almost exclusively in the target language.
Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in the classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
Meet with parents as needed to discuss student progress and challenges.
Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training workshops.
Demonstrate personal leadership qualities to inspire student learning, including understanding of the characteristics of the age group taught.
Work in an organized, dependable, patient, and creative manner.
Advise a group of Intermediate School students by developing meaningful relationships with them and supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Chinese, Education, or related field.
Teaching certification in Chinese or related field.
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a middle or high school setting.
Fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
