Lower School Science & Innovation Teacher

Committed to advancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and experiential, Project-Based Learning in the early elementary years, SJEDS is eager to welcome a creative, outside-the-box thinker to the community. Key Attributes:

This teacher will serve as both a teacher and a catalyst, cultivating relationships with faculty, students, and families alike to draw the community together into a deeper understanding of how to design learning experiences that promote student agency and creativity, as well as key 21st century skills, knowledge, and dispositions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example, following the school’s Faculty Characteristics of Professional Excellence and the guidelines put forth in our Faculty Handbook.
  • Embrace and live out the school's mission and educational philosophy.
  • Provide oversight regarding the science curriculum in grades K-3, ensuring alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards and fidelity to the tenets of Project-Based Learning.
  • Partner with Lower School faculty in the development of overarching Units of Inquiry that thoughtfully integrate learning strands such as literacy, history, culture, science, mathematics, technology, and engineering so that students can make meaningful connections and develop a deep understanding of the world around them.

Requirements

  • Experience in teaching science and innovation to elementary students.
  • Ability to develop and implement Project-Based Learning and STEM programs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to the school's mission and educational philosophy.
  • Ability to work with students, faculty, and families to foster a sense of community and promote student agency and creativity.
